Preserving while renewing: what the future of “Yangiobod” is expected to look like
The city is consistently working on renewing public infrastructure and increasing its openness, safety, and convenience for the population.
These works initially began with the improvement of mahallas, pedestrian paths, and other public places, and today they have also covered city markets.
One such facility is the “Yangiobod” market. This is a place well known to Tashkent residents, which in many countries is called a “flea market” by its format.
That is precisely why, when talking about renewing the market, the city does not aim to change its usual appearance or turn it into a market of a different format.
The task is rather simple and clear — to make “Yangiobod” more convenient, safer, and more comfortable for those who work here and those who come here.
It is about landscaping the territory, standard sanitary conditions, safety, the necessary infrastructure, convenient passageways, and parking. In other words, about the simple conditions that must be present in any modern city market.
At the same time, the sellers who work at “Yangiobod” today will retain their trading places. The market’s usual specialization and, most importantly, its unique atmosphere will also be preserved.
Currently, the city, together with designers, is developing a concept for renewing “Yangiobod”. For us, it is important that this is not just a project created on paper, but a solution that takes into account the opinions of the people for whom this market is truly important.
Therefore, the project will be submitted for public discussion. Every person will be able to familiarize themselves with the proposed changes, express their opinion, ask questions, and make suggestions.
The city’s fundamental task is to take into account people’s interests, preserve the unique appearance and atmosphere of “Yangiobod”, and at the same time create an even safer, more convenient, and modern environment.
