Safe drop-off and pick-up zones for children in front of schools are being gradually expanded
In Tashkent City, work on organising special zones for the safe drop-off and pick-up of schoolchildren is being continued stage by stage. Work in this area is being carried out consistently: specialists are studying the specific features of each area, traffic flow, the location of schools and existing road conditions, and adapting solutions to real urban conditions.
Initially, such zones were organised in front of 2 schools — Schools Nos. 5 and 42 — while today this practice has covered 9 schools. New zones have been organised in front of Schools Nos. 110, 89, 300, 154, 280, 195 and 64.
🅿️ In these zones, special places are being allocated for short-term stopping of vehicles, the necessary road signs are being installed and the relevant road markings are being applied. The main goal is to make the process of dropping off and picking up children safer and more convenient, to reduce disorderly stopping in front of schools and to regulate traffic during the busiest times at the beginning and end of lessons.
🌐 This approach is also widely used in international practice. Zones for the short-term drop-off and pick-up of students, known in some countries as Kiss & Ride or Kiss & Drop, are actively applied in Australia, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands and other countries. Similar solutions have also been introduced in practice in the CIS countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
At the same time, every new solution requires time, observation and regular improvement. Specialists continue to analyse how the organised zones are working in practice, identify emerging problems and further improve the approach taking into account specific streets, the traffic situation and public feedback.
📍 The work will continue stage by stage from now on as well. The experience accumulated in the initial zones will serve as a basis for organising similar zones in front of other schools of the capital.
