Work on improving convenience for pedestrians and giving priority to car-free zones is ongoing.
🗺 The Tashkent City Center for Traffic Organization (YHTEM) has begun implementing a pilot project to integrate parking lots into the city’s unified management system.
🗺 Disorderly parking near crowded facilities remains one of the main problems: vehicles parked on sidewalks, crosswalks, and building entrances lead to narrowing of passages, limited visibility, and reduced safety levels.
🫥 The project is based on giving priority to creating a safe and comfortable urban environment for pedestrians and systematically organizing parking spaces.
🧠 Within the initiative, private surface parking lots near commercial and service facilities are being connected to the unified city management system. This enables transparent accounting of parking spaces, monitoring of their occupancy, and the creation of a clear usage system.
➡️ YHTEM (Tashkent City Center for Traffic Organization) is introducing unified rules, ensuring systematic control, and thereby eliminating chaos in parking organization.
📈 The project is being implemented as a pilot. Later, its effectiveness will be evaluated, and the possibility of expanding it will be considered based on public discussion results.
💎 In addition, an additional source of revenue is being created to be directed toward the development of road infrastructure in the districts where the project is implemented.
For information: According to YHTEM specialists’ analysis, in areas with high urban activity, 20–30% of cars stop in violation of rules. In such cases, sidewalks are partially occupied by vehicles and other obstacles, which can reduce their capacity by up to 40–60%. In congested areas, up to 30%, and in some places up to 40%, of the traffic flow is generated by the search for parking. World experience confirms the effectiveness of digital and centralized parking management: according to independent calculations, unified digital systems can reduce parking search time by up to 43% and the distance traveled by 30%. This is confirmed, in particular, by the SFpark program in San Francisco. A similar approach in Moscow reduced parking violations by 64% and increased average traffic speed in paid parking zones to 56 km/h. Funds received from the system are directed toward the improvement of courtyards and streets in the relevant districts.
💸 This is a comprehensive approach aimed at increasing the safety of pedestrian zones, reducing conflicts between road users, and forming a sustainable and predictable urban order.
