Yesterday, at the Tashkent city administration, the mayor of the capital Shavkat Umurzakov held a meeting with Lord Jon Olderdays, the Special Trade Envoy of the Prime Minister of Great Britain for Central Asia and Azerbaijan, who is leading a high-level delegation on an official visit to Uzbekistan.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed in detail the issues of trade and economic, investment and infrastructure cooperation. It was emphasised that the main sectors of Tashkent’s economy are developing on the basis of the principles of openness, transparency and zero tolerance for corruption. The city is consistently forming an investment-attractive environment aimed at long-term cooperation and sustainable growth.

It was noted that in recent years the capital has been demonstrating advanced rates of development, cooperation with regions of various countries is intensifying, and projects are being implemented in the fields of industry, transport, urban infrastructure, education and innovation. The volume of attracted investments is steadily growing, which makes it possible to accelerate the modernisation of the urban environment and improve the quality of life of the population. Special attention was paid to the development of social infrastructure. Along with the reconstruction of existing schools and kindergartens and the expansion of coverage, the construction of new educational institutions in every district of the city is planned. In addition, to form the Olympic reserve, it is envisaged to establish specialised sports schools for 32 sports. Within the framework of the capital’s environmental policy, the gradual relocation of industrial and road facilities that have a negative impact on the environment outside the city continues. The guests were informed about major investment projects being implemented in Tashkent, the construction of modern residential complexes, the modernisation of transport infrastructure, as well as measures for environmental protection and reforms in the field of the “green” economy. It was emphasised that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Great Britain in recent years, including in the fields of urban planning, education, finance and innovation, is consistently strengthening. The members of the delegation expressed interest in expanding the exchange of advanced management experience, deepening investment cooperation and increasing the participation of the private sector in joint projects. In addition, the issues of organising bilateral business forums and establishing direct contacts between business circles were considered. At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their readiness to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation and implement joint initiatives.
