Priority for Public Transport is Increasing in Tashkent: Delimiters are Being Installed on “A” Lanes
Work continues in Tashkent on the gradual introduction of dedicated “A” category lanes for bus traffic.
Special road markings for the “A” lane have been applied on the section of Furqat Street in the Magic City area up to Islam Karimov Street around the Palace of Friendship of Peoples. In addition, delimiters — physical separation elements — are being installed to separate this lane from the general traffic flow.
This is an important innovation for the capital. Now, the priority given to public transport is being reinforced not only by road markings, but also by additional visible, understandable, and disciplining elements.
📊 Why is this needed?
World experience shows that dedicated bus lanes in the USA, Spain, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Australia, and also in Baku help increase public transport speed, reduce delays during peak hours, and stabilize bus schedules.
Major megacities use such solutions as one of the key tools to reduce traffic congestion and increase the attractiveness of public transport.
Delimiters further enhance the effectiveness of dedicated lanes: they reduce the likelihood of foreign vehicles entering the bus lane, prevent chaotic lane changes, and clearly show drivers in advance where the priority for public transport begins.
It should be noted that during the current year, it is planned to organize “A” category dedicated lanes on more than 30 streets in Tashkent. Delimiters and other elements aimed at improving public transport efficiency will also be gradually applied on these routes.
The main goal is to turn bus traffic in Tashkent into a faster, more stable, and predictable system.
If public transport has real priority, thousands of passengers will benefit: travel time will be reduced, ride comfort will increase, road load will decrease, and a modern urban traffic culture will be formed.
