🚗 Sergeli Car Market: YHTEM is Reducing Traffic Load on New Sergeli Street
Sergeli Car Market is one of the largest areas in the capital that shapes traffic flow.
The market’s capacity is designed for a total of 5,400 vehicles. Of these, 3,500 spaces are allocated for car sales, and the rest are used as a parking lot. In addition, there are more than 1,800 commercial facilities in the market area specialized in the sale of auto parts and other related products. Moreover, more than 1,500 vehicles use the entrance and exit points of the market adjacent to New Sergeli Street. Such a scale of the market directly affects the traffic situation in its surroundings.
As many drivers know well, this situation has caused serious traffic congestion on New Sergeli Street for years. Cars slowed down on the main road to enter the market, while vehicles leaving the market joined the general flow over a short distance. As a result, delays and traffic jams occurred.
To solve this problem, the Traffic Management Center (YHTEM) is implementing a new traffic organization scheme in the Sergeli Car Market area. An additional local road is being built throughout the market territory. This road will serve to separate the transport flow associated with the market from the main flow on New Sergeli Street.
Now, vehicles moving along New Sergeli Street can turn onto the new local road in advance without obstructing the main flow and conveniently enter the market area. Similarly, vehicles leaving the market will first exit onto the local road and then orderly join the general flow on New Sergeli Street.
This solution will reduce sudden braking and turning maneuvers on the main street, decrease the load on one of the district’s important streets, and make traffic around the market more orderly.
In addition, separate infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists is being developed along the new road. This is very important, as not only car owners, but also buyers, workers, residents of nearby mahallas, and passengers using public transport use the market area.
Special attention is also being paid to organizing parking inside the market. Previously, chaotic parking created inconvenience within the market area itself: cars left in unmarked places interfered with movement, entrance and exit, and the free movement of visitors.
To organize internal parking, road markings for more than 2,000 vehicle spaces have been applied in the market area. This will allow more rational use of the internal territory, reduce cases of chaotic parking, and organize movement inside the market more clearly and safely.
📊 Expected results from the new order:
The new solution will serve to separate the market’s transport flow from the main traffic on New Sergeli Street, reduce the load on one of the district’s important streets, shorten conflict points at entrances and exits, and bring traffic around the market to a more understandable, safe, and predictable level.
In addition, the new organization of traffic will improve the convenience and speed of public transport, shorten the road for pedestrians, and improve safety conditions for movement.
YHTEM continues its work to improve the transport situation in Sergeli district.
