Barakkhan Madrasah

In 2007, the Hastimam or Hazrati Imam complex was opened in honor of the great theologian and scholar Qaffol ash-Shashi, whose mausoleum is located nearby. Previously hidden among the buildings of the neighborhood, the Old Barakkhan Madrasah complex became an ornament.

The Barakkhan Madrasah was built in the 16th century during the reign of Ulugbek's grandson Suyunchkhodjakhan. Two domes are visible on the sides of the roof - they rise above the mausoleums: on the left, an unknown scholar is buried, and on the right, a place was reserved for Suyunchkhodjakhan himself, but he was buried in Samarkand. A dome also stands opposite the entrance, where there was once a mosque. The domes were destroyed by the earthquake of 1868.

The partially destroyed madrasah was restored in the 19th century and renovated in the 1960s. During the USSR, this building was used for various trades, for example, for the madrasah's kerosene, and for some time it served as a residence for the blind. From the middle of the 20th century to 2007, the madrasah housed the Central Asian Muslims' religious administration.

The domes and domes were restored on the eve of the opening of the Hastimom complex, when Tashkent was declared the center of Islamic civilization.

The inner courtyard of the madrasah once housed student dormitories, and now in place of the mosque there are workshops of craftsmen and shops selling mosque products - these are ceramics, jewelry, sozanes, robes, skullcaps and much more. Therefore, the madrasah is definitely included in the visiting program of tourists and guests of the city.

The beautiful and unique Barakkhan madrasah, which recently celebrated its 600th anniversary, is one of the most important and frequently visited historical, architectural and religious monuments of Tashkent.
