Traffic Light Timers Are Now Displayed in Tashkent Navigation Systems

The Traffic Management Center under the Tashkent City Hokimiyat continues to implement solutions aimed at digitalizing transport infrastructure and making movement in the city more understandable, predictable, and safe.

One such solution is the function of displaying traffic light signal change timers in navigation services. This function is currently available at more than 300 traffic light facilities in the capital.

Now, drivers can see not only the current signal of the traffic light through the navigator, but also the time remaining until it changes. This is especially important at intersections where countdown timers are not yet installed on the traffic lights themselves.

The project was implemented by the Traffic Management Center under the Tashkent City Hokimiyat in cooperation with the Tashkent City Transport Department, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Yandex Uzbekistan.

The integration of traffic light phase data allows drivers to assess the situation at the intersection in advance, plan their movement more accurately before the stop line, and move more calmly in the traffic flow. This creates convenience for the residents of the capital, city guests, drivers, and all regular users of navigation systems.

📱 Previously, separate applications were created to display such information, but the most convenient format for drivers is when the information appears directly in the navigator they are used to.

📊 According to Yandex research data, 88% of drivers actively use traffic light signal displays in navigation. Up to 63% of respondents noted that such information makes it easier to assess movement in advance, 48% said it helps them feel safer behind the wheel, and 51% noted that trips become calmer.

⏱️ In addition, using traffic light phase data allows for more accurate calculation of arrival time. When building a route, not only the average waiting time at the traffic light is taken into account, but also the current road conditions.

In the first phase, traffic light timers are displayed in Yandex Maps and Navigator services, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto versions. In the future, it is planned to expand coverage and connect additional traffic light facilities to the system.
