In Tashkent City, gradual work continues to increase the priority of public transport and implement a policy of reducing dependence on private cars
The main goal of the project is to make public transport fast, convenient, safe and popular so that travelling by bus becomes an attractive alternative to a private car. This corresponds to the strategy of the Traffic Organisation Centre and the city’s direction of reducing dependence on private vehicles.
Every year the number of cars in the capital increases by approximately 30,000. In order for buses not to lose speed in the general traffic flow, it is planned to gradually organise dedicated lanes for them in Tashkent City.
At the current stage, specialists analysed road sections with a total length of more than 150 kilometres along which public transport routes pass. Based on the analysis results, it was recommended to start work on a section of approximately 18 kilometres. Four directions with a total length of 17.9 kilometres have been included in the project:
🔹 Muqimiy Street — a 4.6 km section in the territory of Yashnobod and Chilonzor districts;
🔹 Qoratosh and Ko‘kcha Darvoza streets — a 4.2 km section in Shaykhontohur District;
🔹 Parkent Street — a 2.8 km section in Mirzo Ulugbek District;
🔹 Mirzo Ulugbek Avenue — a 6.3 km section in Mirzo Ulugbek District.
On these sections it is planned to repair the central streets and organise dedicated lanes for bus traffic.
The decision of the capital’s hokim has been signed, and the budget for the development of project documentation is currently being formed. According to preliminary calculations, approximately 6.5 billion soums will be required for these purposes. It is planned to cover the costs from the funds of the Tashkent City Development Fund.
It is expected that the customer of the projects will be “Tashkent Invest Company” JSC. Design organisations, contractors and organisations providing technical supervision services will be determined on a competitive basis in accordance with the procedure established by legislation.
