Amir Temur Square
Amir Temur Square

As you have already understood, Tamerlane's personality is very important for Uzbekistan, therefore, in addition to the museum in Tashkent, there is also a square named after the great conqueror. At the end of the 19th century, there was a dusty square on the site of the square, along which the buildings of the bank, the women's and men's gymnasiums and the teachers' seminary were located. Then a monument to Konstantin Kaufman, a Russian military figure, was erected here.

After the October Revolution, of course, it was dismantled, and in the 1940s a monument to Stalin was erected. Soon, it was removed from the square, and in subsequent years, more than one monument of communist themes was erected.

After Uzbekistan gained independence, it became increasingly common to talk about national heroes of the past centuries, including Tamerlane. In 1994, the square was renamed in his honor and a bronze monument depicting a military commander on horseback was erected. Address: Tashkent, Amir Temur Square.
